Artist Statement

The poetry of the earth is never dead. -Keats

In ecology, the transition between two landscapes is referred to as an ecotone. The boundary can be clear and defined, or complicated and ambiguous. My work straddles divisions between earth as body/body as earth, and the ecotones of temporary/permanent, secular/religious, and the American West/Central Europe. One role of the artist is to be an ecotone, holding in tension diverse geographies and communities in the epoch of the anthropocene.

My work crosses boundaries between installation, farm labor, land art, drawing, performance, sculpture and poetry (labor, work and action - Arendt). Materials range from soil, logs, salt, beeswax, to bronze, rope, steel rod and language.
